XC60 purchase

Post by vvvolvo »

I am considering the purchase of a 2012 XC60 t6 AWD, 131k miles. I currently own a 2004 S60 with 207k that has many issues, though still runs everyday. Are there any potential problems I should look for when inspecting the XC60? Any known issues? I love Volvos and I love how the XC60 drives, but I have never owned an SUV of any sort and want to make sure I don’t buy one with problems I could detect on inspection. Also, does the XC60 require special gas, oil or fluids?
Thanks!

Good vehicles. Few problem areas. I just bought a 2010 T6 R design with 111K. These have been proven now and the engines are going over 200K with no big problems.
Rear brakes usually wear before fronts. Inside rear pads have to be inspected as those tend to wear more like all brands with electric parking brakes.

The suspension has no upper spring seats and all the other bits in suspension have long life.

Water pumps can fail sometimes below 100K on the 2011 and later. It is behind and below back end of cylinder head but you can see it from below with splash pan off and from above by popping off the engine top cover.

You unclip, lift and set aside power steering reservoir to change oil filter. Unscrew oil filter cap and leave it in place then drain oil. The filter will drain and then change filter last.
