Inner Tie Rods - are new ones supposed to be this tight?

Post by Arwing »

I just got some new inner tie rods from FCP. They are the Lemforder brand.

I can't move the ball joint on these at all by hand even using some vise grips. Now, obviously the car's steering will put more force on them but still I was just wondering if the joint is supposed to be this tight out of the box?

I can see a very small amount of grease already in the joint. Do they need grease before install?

They will be bound up tight when new but all it takes is a couple of full left-right steering cycles to loosen them up. You can apply some grease to them.

That's how they supposed to be out of the box.
Don't worry. ;)
