U-Pull-It ...What should I grab? s70 v70 98-99

Post by Eddystone »

I am now the proud owner of a '99 S70 T5 and a '98 V70 non-turbo. I'm headed to a U-Pull-It that I've been to before that has a number of S70's and V70's in the yard. Some were pretty well picked over last time I was there, but they add new ones.

Main target will be a perfect black LF fender. If there is a T5 there, I will pick it over pretty good.

What do you think I should grab????

After my last experience, I am going to grab every relay I can get my hands on. An auto climate control module. Maybe a couple of spare wheels. Possibly a good passenger seat with nice leather that I can transfer to a driver's seat down the road.

How about a VVT solenoid for the 99? Throttle body ETM for the '99.

How about the basic computer in the engine compartment?

What would you grab?

1999 S70 T5 Turbo/Auto which is better than Abscate's T5
All U.S. market models.
All running and on the road.
PM me if you are in Ohio. I'm in Lorain.

It’s been awhile for me, but I always grabbed a drivers window switch and the cup holder. A couple years ago, I ran into a fellow Volvo picker at Harry’s U Pull It in Pennsburg, PA. He went for the vacuum lines as long as the rubber on each end was in good condition. Sometimes headlight wipers, even though mine never worked. Floor mats. Headlights if the reflective coating is not flaked off, also cornering lamps.

Sounds like a dumb question, but how do you take a passenger seat and install on the driver’s side? Totally serious. Not sure if your screen name is also your location, but Shorty’s in King of Prussia usually had S70’s, but Harry’s in West Hazleton is the nirvana of u-pull it. Just make sure you stop at Senape’s Bakery for Pitz on the ride home.

I have found quite bit at the Pennsburg yard.

I was reading that though the driver and passenger seats are different, the leather covering is identical. Never done the changeover myself.

I wish I knew where to get 940 parts near Philly. They seem to crush them as soon as they get them, now.

We have a "Junkyard 'Do Not Leave' Parts" thread somewhere, that has a lot of good info in it. '99 ECUs won't be of any use, as those are married to the VIN. '98 ECU might be worth it for resale if it's for a T5 or R.

The leather seat bottom is identical from driver to passenger side, totally interchangeable. I believe the back is different, abscate had a thread fairly recently where I believe he swapped the back. I think the issue lies within the lumbar/manual recline knob cutouts.

Seat bottom identical

Seat back, the lumbar cutouts are reversed and I switched a manual pass seat onto a driver power seat, so had to cover the recline button, too. Use old leather from your old seat to do this.

Be careful with -1998 SIPS seats, they are impact triggered.

I need a right front grill for my T5 next to the fog light too, pretty please..

You don't drive it in that condition, do you?

;-)

I'll look when I go, but now that I have my own T5 (the ultimate machine from '99 complete with artificial intelligence throttle control and a trans that shifts gears automatically), any T5 parts may end up in my parts bin.

They've actually gone down in price a little bit.

Harry's in Hazelton didn't have many usable seats on my last visit a couple months ago. Items to harvest include any good front seats you see, alloy wheels (you can usually find a good set -- with tires on they'll cost you more, but you can rent the bead breaker tool and dismount the usually clapped out tires before you check out and save yourself a few bucks. They refund the $20 deposit on the tire tool when you return it.

Directional and cruise control stalks, interior door cards, rear speakers if you have a base wagon not equipped with same, lift gate struts, roof trim strips (NLS), roof rack and associated hardware, headlight switch, but be careful removing, easy to butcher), emergency hazard flasher, any interior trim you might need, headlights & side markers, air guide if the cars have any -- usually tough to find, front bumper grilles (down low by the towing eyes), doors, fenders, lift gate if you'd like to have handy. One thing I've been sure to harvest are good quality rear bumper covers -- I haven't yet worked out how to get the front ones off, but having rears has saved my bacon a couple times and painted bumper covers, when available from Volvo for a V70 were close to $600/new. Any rear light lenses -- expensive to replace if cracked in a fender bender. Throttle body for the '99 if it is a rebuilt by Xemodex, plus individual coil packs for the cylinders. About all I can think of at the moment. Most pretty easy to harvest.
