Light Bulb Indicator Lamp on Dash

1996 Volvo 850

Whenever I push on the brake pedal my 'Bulb Out' indicator lights up on my dashboard and when I let off the pedal it goes out. I've checked and I have no burned out bulbs on my car. Also its intermittent, it will go completely away after awhile then reappear in a few days. What else could this mean? I've checked the brake fluid and the level is good.

Brake fluid level should not trigger this. An old buld, even if still working, could. If it is a wagon: have yoi checked the wiring loom under the left hinge?

The high mount center brake light is problematic on both sedans and wagons. On sedans the contacts are a spring steel and after time it looses its "springiness". You can fix that by taking a pair of pliers and bending the contacts down. On the wagons the wiring loom at the hing point on the door tends to fail and it starts off intermittent before it fails completely. The way to fix that is to splice in new wires, one at a time, by soldering in new sections with heat shrink to insulate the splice points.

One other place to look on a sedan is the spoiler brake lamp if you have a spoiler.
