I have a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT that has developed a problem where it stalls when I come to a quick stop. My indie suggested there might be a large leak in one of the hoses. Initially I did not find anything but poking around I discovered that the hose coming off the throttle body (and also connects to idle air controller) has a large gash lengthwise on side facing driver. Out of site. Is this the likely cause of my troubles?
I've seen this called different names. Is it Intercooler hose to throttle body? I don't see it on FCP. I see a cheap URO hose for $22 elsewhere. Is URO still considered crap?
The stalling is getting bad. Is there anything I can do to reduce this problem while I wait for a new hose? Duct tape?
I also discovered a short hose coming off the vacuum tree by idle air motor to a relay(?) above fan has a completely rotted connection above the fan. There is a round check valve(?) on the connection. Not sure what hose this little one is. I cut off the rotted part and reconnected it with what was left.
I need to determine the correct name/part and order hose. Must drive tomorrow. Getting pretty good at starting car while in motion. Lately car has not wanted to start up again. Not sure if things are getting worse or there are other side effects from leaky hose.
Thanks,
Intercooler hose to throttle body [1997Volvo850GLT]

What he said about duct tape.
URO is still crap. You may want to spring for a silicone kit of intercooler hoses, will run you $160 or so from FCP or eEuroparts. Not good news I know. Or get the URO and limp along with it while it lasts, it will be better than duct tape. FCP only has it (9161093) as part of the kits. $117 plus shipping at Lisle http://volvopartslisle.com/part/OEM-Vol ... 61093/Hose.
Time to inspect (and probably replace) all of the little vacuum hoses, all of them. Use generic rubber (cheaper) vacuum line or silicone (lasts longer, but rubber will last quite a while), no part numbers necessary if you do it that way.
Check the base of the vacuum tree for air leaks too.

Those holes in the hoses are certainly one cause of stalling at idle, yes.
Electrical tape might work better on the tighter radius places on the hose

Never underestimate the power of the handyman's secret weapon. Use it on coolant leaks, air leaks, vacuum leaks, it will keep ya going*. Also good for body work and holding up your head liner. Brackets break, replace with duct tape. Shroud busted, duct tape. Busted center console, duct tape.
