The only thing that worked for me to remove silicone is vinegar. In fact, I used some Rain-x stuff on my windshield and noticed even new wipers were starting to 'squeak' even from day one. So I went to try removing that silicone film - if this was the reason or not for that squeaking it's debatable - and I used vinegar but it was really difficult. In the end I soaked a shirt in vinegar and let it rest on the windshield for several hours. No more squeaking now. In all the heater cores I've replaced (it has been three now), I was never fortunate enough to have the cause be leaking o-rings. Rather, it has been my uniform experience with heater cores that the leaks were due to failures in the structural integrity of the units themselves. You may have better luck than I did.

CRL 1973 with ammonia is the best hands down. I used to tint windows and my experience with many glass cleaners is that foam cleaners stay wet longer so they tend to clean better. Cleans anything, great for chrome and bathrooms too. You can find it at Home depot or order a case from Crl' Another good one is Sprayways sw-050 you can get that from auto part stores.
