Tailgate gasket 3512402 across top - shrinking? correct glue?

Used Contact Cement. Used a toothbruse to scrub out the overflow, but I think I actually should add more so there is a bead instead of a trough where water could collect along the edge. Need to find something viscous in a tube with a small nozzle. Butyl seems right. Or more silicone caulk, as is already on the driver's corner.

Unsure if it is meant to be glued into the corners or if that's a drainage design. Guessing it should be sealed.

I can see that the top edge of the metal on the hatch is just beginning to seem rusty. Need to seal that with fingernail lacquer.

Also the Lower Moulding has gotten stiff & is coming away at the ends. Don't know if plastic revitalizer will help, letting it soak. Otherwise, it looks kind of generic as to its shape. Any ideas? Seems to be (expensive):
