windshield lower seal replacement?

I am wondering how to attach the lower windshield seal/trim that goes from the wiper cowl to the base of the windshield. Does it just snap on? Do I need an adhesive?
I notice in some other posts that windshield may need to be removed and reset with the trim? Is this true? I did silicone at one time part of this lower trim/seal because it seemed like a place that water may be entering into the heating/AC blower fan. There was a horrible leakage into the passenger seat and the fan has some water sloshing around it.

I am not certain on this, but I think one of my Volvo 850/V70 P80's the strip was removable once the plastic wiper motor cover was removed. It needed a little prying to do so. Replacing you could use some sealant to get it to stay in place.

I do think it is meant to be replaced with the windshield, but I'm assuming you either already have it removed or are close to. So if you already have it out, and it was not held in with sealant and didn't leak, then that is your answer.
