V70r M66 Engine out the top or bottom?

Post by pdr1966sc »

I have been searching around and found lots of good resources to prepare for an engine swap in an 07 V70r M66 car.

There seems to be no CLEAR better way, and 'better' maybe be more to do with ones experience and available equipment than anything.

I have a DRIVE on hoist, so my PREFERENCE is to take it out the top - even if I remove the head and associated parts 1st

Can someone offer suggestions on the top out method, and if it is REALLY easier to drop below - if so why?

In theory I could sling the top of the car from my hoist posts and lower the platform down to drop it out the bottom but this might be a bit risky and uncoventional.

Usually from above. Don't forget to replace the slave cylinder.

From top.

BCM (ABS) module will be an obstacle, which you can work around: unbolt BCM, tilt engine slightly, so the belts side is a bit higher.

I did two engines, first one was a bit hard to take out, but once you figure out how to slide it up, it's easy peasy.

Yes, I was swapping out chassis that met with rocks and trees in icy forest ;) Every good bit was taken out and put into a reasonably cheap, neglected donor.

Can anyone add - does coming out the top differ between Manual and Auto version (clutch/pressure plate may be longer).

If you don't get all answers, also try on european forums - they have plenty of manual transmissions that fail at the slave, so have to pull the engine

something like this one https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/
