broke key transponder
broke key transponder
i recently bought 2004 xc70 five cylinder turbo and i inadvertently drilled through the key transponder. It was the only key... The blade still turnes everything on, just wont start the car. My question is how do i fix this?

The only solution is to flat bed tow your car to Volvo dealer.
Then about $250 later for a basic key (key cost, license, and programming).

i dont have the money for a tow. It would be a hundred plus miles, i live in yakima washington and the closest dealership is in tacama or seatle. How does volvo transponder communicate with ignition key ring. I am familiar with ford and chevys way. Is it the same?

To program a new key for a P2 Volvo, 2001-07, the car has to physically connected To VIDA with a subscription To Volvo ( clone software for $100 will NOT work) to marry the new key to the ECU.
Scrape up tow money or rent a flat bed for a day.
Get AAA and wait the grace period for a tow, then report a no start
We are guessing your drill took out the RF chip in the key , so you need a new key.

You may order pre-cut key online from the dealer (need to show VIN and proof of ownership), don't throw away package, it has a code on it! Then you contact user Double-Bug here on MVS and he knows how to add key remotely, just DiCE and internet connection is needed.
so if i have "DICE" which is a cable running from ob2 to computer , and an internet connection, user Double-Bug can program it ? I have the old key, which works the ignition, just wont start it. But i still have to get a new key anyway with a non-programmed chip in it correct?
