2005 V50 T5 no crank

Hello, this started about a month ago and is becoming more frequent. When I turn the ignition to start it will crank once and then stop. Turn the ignition key off and then try again its starts fine. Seems like the starter locks up the first time and then cranks/starts the second time. It doesn't matter if it's a cold start, warm start, etc. No warnings or codes.

Hey Melissa...MDK here. I hate to sound obvious but it seems you might have a bad starter. They get burnt spots on the windings. How old is your battery.? If you have triple A .. they usually check out those things for free. But I have the 100 mile gold package.Atleast that's how it is here in Ohio. Just my opinion... hope this helps

Thanks MDK. I figured it was a bad starter or something in the ignition switch. My understanding is a starter is like a light bulb, it's either good or bad but your explanation makes sense if part of the windings go bad. It would depend on were I am catching the starter at.

You can test the starting circuit by jumping pin 30 & 87 on the pins for the starting relay position in the engine compartment fuse box.

With key in Pos II if you jump with a wire across the pins stated above the car will start if the starter is good. If the car doesn't start you need to look at the ignition switch and ECM signal (B17 on the diagram) which provides power to the starter relay coil
