URO Trash Strikes Again

Post by ferocity02 »

When I first got this car it had a really bad oil leak. Turns out the rear cam seal popped out behind the cam sensor. I figured it was likely due to a blocked PCV system so I replaced it all with a URO Parts PCV system.

5.5 years and 20k miles later the car is leaking a bunch of oil from the front of the engine. After lots of cleaning I figured it was coming from the PCV oil trap box area. The lower hose/bushing thing was total mush. The upper hose was also trash. About 3 years ago I had to replace the two 90 degree adapters that connect to the PTC valve. The 90 degree adapter going to the intake manifold disintegrated when removing the manifold.

I replaced it all with genuine Volvo parts. Lesson learned.

That’s freaking ridiculous. The oil load there is well known and rubber that resists oil isn’t hard to fab.

My URO parts oil short 'J' hose into the front of the block from the oil separator lasted less than 2 weeks and 700km before it split.

Yes their rubber parts are crap and we have had many of us find out the hard way. Good luck with the fix and only OE hoses.

I am surprised you did not read the URO threads from other people.

Their products are inferior, you lose not only money and time.

The only URO part I buy are metal stuff:
- BMW E39 thermostat aluminum housing, even so I have to sand it flat etc. OK now.
- 2004 V70 exhaust metal hanger.

Do not buy URO rubber parts.

Another URO nightmare here.

I had cheaped out and replaced the power steering reservoir-to-pump hose with a URO one. A couple years later, it was so swollen that it finally made contact with the serp belt, got cut, and sprayed fluid all over the place. I had just enough to make it to the dealer and then home. It sucks spending like $70 on a hose, but the original one lasted the better part of 10 years.

Weren't the URO folks on here before touting their reformulations? If it cannot handle oil, it isn't fit for purpose in the automotive world...
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

URO assures us that procedures and materials have been markedly improved since PO's date of manufacture. Let's hope so as I've used some of their parts since then.

The heavy duty spring seats have been used in our XC90 and I think the little PCV bottle to engine block tube as pictured above as well as the connecting pipe and the crankcase breather hose. Its going to take my wife 6-7 years to do 20,000 miles though

I downgraded her XC90's PCV system to the earlier one as the later (larger) parts were too expensive.

15,000km and almost 2 years so far and no leaks.

I've also used the URO fuel door hinges-they work great

The Pro Parts spring seats on my 2001 V70T5 have just begun to crack after about 20,000km (I noticed FCP don't sell these any more)
