Brake fluid low warning

Post by Mr. Detail »

Heh guys. I am starting to wish I had repaired my old '98 S70, so I don't have to see that darn message board thing in the lower left corner of the dashboard. Anyway it has been giving me an URGENT warning about low brake fluid yet when I went under the hood last evening and checked the reservoir, it was completely full. Do I need to be concerned? Not sure what else could be wrong.

 Yes my S80 has the message center but also has this annoying triangle that lights with the message. When it is a yellow triangle I call it the impending doom and when red impending death!

Check the float in the master cylinder reservoir that it floats and the electronic connector is properly making contact. June

June, thanks for you response. How do I check the float when there is no real access? I unscrewed the cap and then witnessed this slotted plastic insert. Is the float internal to the reservoir? Can you buy a new float alone if necessary?

When you pull the cap the float comes with it, unless the P2 is completely different?

If you, didn’t undo an electrical connector to remove the cap, you might have found the problem

On edit, I am idiot. P2 is different

P2 has a stand alone cap and the connection is part of the reservoir. Here is my S80s fluid reservoir. Looks like one screw type fastener holds the reservoir to the master cylinder and the float may be felt with a paperclip straitened then poked through the narrow opening inside the reservoir carefully, otherwise the reservoir needs to come off and you may as well put a new one on. I thought you'd give me the business about the dirty break fluid  . Notice the EZ location of the transmission dipstick, why Volvo didn't do that on all models I'll never understand. What is bad about the break reservoir? June
