Ok SuperHerman..... Your Razor Idea Worked out Pretty Good.... Thank you..

Got them as clean as I could enough so ill sleep at night...

Got the lapping done washed it all out , Then moved on the Stem seals,valves,spring... The Hardest part were the keeper.... gezzzz

Next I have 2 Broken Bolts in the Manifold , the 2 bolts the hold the heat shield the longer spring loaded bolts...
Anyone have a Sure Fire Way of removing them?? I have 3 reverse bit kits with the same 8mm bits missing they broke....
Never had luck with easy outs....

Abscate!!
You asking about the Compression Tool. Got this one from amazon for 18+$
It worked easily I had no problems with it....

Jay..just drill those bolts out ( you or shop) and out some stud on with a stainless nut. The shield can be held on pretty loosely

The shop,can do a nicer job with a drill press than a hands drill

Gm . Abscate.
I never never had any luck getting broken bolts out of cast iron...

Im.calling around ,try and find a shop locally.

Long Soak it with Liquid Wrench and use a left hand drill bit. A lot of the time the bolt will back out when the left hand drill bit bites.

Glad you got the valves clean to your liking. I know the feeling.

That spring compression tool for $18 looks great and a great price. The keepers are a pain, I usually use a tooth pick and some thick grease and/or a magnetized screwdriver and toothpick (a bamboo skewer really) to break the magnet bond. I then rotate the keeper opposite the optimal "zone" and put in the second one.

I think RickHaleParker has the right idea. Use a center punch and give it a good wack. This is super important as it will follow you through all the drilling. You have to keep the drill going in straight. My results are similar - after a couple upsizes on the bit the broken bolt starts to come out. I think the vibration rattles the chemical bonding, working with the Liquid Wrench, they usually come out. The original torque, caused by the bolt head or nut, is gone (as they broke off) - so it is really just threads and corrosion causing the problem. Just take your time and stay straight.

Mr Jay: Can you position nuts on the end of the bolts then spot weld the nuts to the bolts through the center of the nut without welding the bolts to the Manifold or do you know somebody that can do it?

If you can get that done, the welded nut will give you something to turn the bolts with.

For the Keepers I use vasoline and 2 tie wraps... Magnetic screw driver wasnt working out.
As for the Bolts called round , Then stop at 2 welding shops, a muffer shop and 2 auto repair garages... No one could or didn't want to waste time trying.

On my back home seen a metal fabrication shop so I stop in , 1st I was told sorry we only do manufacturing here then an older gentleman stepped into the waiting area and asked whats going on, explain to him what I needed he looked and said I can do that if u dont mind waiting until morning to pick it up... I said No I dont mind but how much you asking ... He said 5 bucks apiece? Hell Yeah Have at it! lol
Best part it's on a back road not even 2 mins from my house...

Today I think I have to take a break from this... need to recover... cant live on meds....

Hi..

Got the manifold back bolts out threads unharmed.
Have you guys heard of using Candle Wax to help remove bolts?
That's how this guy ended up doing it .. Heat the metal around the bolt then touch the candle to the threads let it run in and while still warm undo the bolt... I have to check this www thing out and see for myself....

Neat trick. Candle wax is just very heavy oil, the heat bust s the rust up.
