Hey guys thanks for your excellent help beginning to understand 5cyl. modular engine features
my 2000 V70 AWD, B5244T, VIN56, exhaust only VVT, using Bosch ME7 ECU, has blown head gasket at least
instead of trying to repair a head that may be damaged (I'm old, really really old, finished crawling under cars, mostly) I'm seeing lots of used engines here in the SF area
Most recently 2006 2.5L B5254T2 R5 120K miles. Bingo, if it can be adapted.
I gather one can abandon the intake VVT solenoid, remove it, cover oil channels with a plate.
My question is will the Bosch ME7 ECU already in the car and integrated into the may systems.
Grateful for any feedback about this.

Actually I think you can just not plug the intake CVVT solenoid in and forget about it with no need to remove the solenoid. That is easy since there is nothing on your harness to plug it into anyway. The CVVT hubs are significantly larger than the standard cam so you really can't replace the CVVT hub with the old engine's intake sprocket. When the CVVT control solenoid doesn't get any kind of control signal it just reverts to a locked position.
I have never worked on a Volvo newer than a 2000 so I have zero experience on the other nuances between 2000 and 2006. The important stuff is that the intake and exhaust ports more or less match up and that the accessories (A/C, power steering, alternator) will bolt on properly and I will be of no help on that. There may be some sensor changes, I just don't know. To the extent possible you need to do the swap between the manifolds and keep as much of the original car's electronics, primarily the ETM, in place as possible.
