I've noticed AC related questions lately. I thought documenting a factory system still in good operating condition would give a good baseline of what is normal. My car has 169K and all components are factory Volvo.
All temperatures are center vent high fan speed. 88° day high humidity.
Recirculating on, within one minute of operation 44° at idle in the driveway. For the next ten minutes 39° to 45° then stabilizing to 43°. Driving to shop the temperature ran 42° to 44° on recirculating.
Than outside air selection 40° stable driving or idle. I waited five minutes on outside air between air outlet temperature photos though temperature drops to 40 quickly with outside air selection. June

45F of delta is smoking cold...I suspect your S80 might have the fancy Variable displacement compressor

To add, I normally run the AC one notch above half and outside air. At this setting 40° in town stable temperature and on the beltway 65mph 38° for a couple of minutes then 37° compressor cycled off raising outlet temperature to 42° then compressor engages dropping outlets to 38 quickly then stabilizing for a couple more minutes to do the same cycle all over again. All the Volvo cars I have had ACs were cold. This car has always had excellent AC. The dash fan was changed last year due to vibration. Also at the timing belt service 3/2016 109K I had Volvo replace the freon though nothing was wrong. I figured after 12 years of service some might have leaked but I couldn't tell any difference. The original compressor is untouched as the rest of the system. I don't know what compressor it has. I can say it is quiet still when it is on and you stand in front of the car.
My good friend always remarks how the vents never blow hot air on start ups. It does seem instant cold, but so are the current Volvos I get as service loaners. Next time I have a loaner I will borrow Mike's thermometer and add a comparison test. I figured it would be good to know what is normal in case of future repair and hopefully help others get a idea of what their system should do. June

35 degrees of delta is decent, 40 is good, 45 degrees is really good, above that is phenomenal.
Someone really got the charge level dialed in just right.
Can you adjust mix of internal and external air on an S80 ? Ours are all/ none
If you. Punch holes in your leather, the seats are cooler too, by the way.

It's all or none. Recirculate or outside air. My 2004 does not have the air quality monitoring system my 2002 had which automatically switched between the two settings depending on the outside air quality.
