Oil change duration

I've had my 2015 S60 for about a year. My check oil light has been coming on after about 7,000 miles with full synthetic. Is this typical? The dealership has not done a thorough diagnostic yet but they mentioned piston or engine replacement which seemed a bit much. Any information would help. TIA

Well it depends on driving conditions. But I think the computer doesn't actually analyse the oil wear, rather is guessing this from some car useage parameters. My question would be, does the computer calculate for mineral or synthetic? I'd rather believe it considers the oil to be mineral.

That makes sense but since there is no dipstick it makes it very hard to know if I really need to add more oil. Also I believe it is recommended to use synthetic oil with my model so you’d think the computer would be on the same side page.
