When your car is up again follow the line to the rear and you'll find a T fitting where L and R brake lines diverge. I looked at parts catalog and I see a rubber line to the T on left delta link and then the right side brake line runs over and has a rubber hose section between the L and R delta links to get to right caliper.

Fascinating. Maybe the diagonal split was mandatory on non ABS cars only.

It was never mandatory. It was a hallmark Volvo feature they touted for so long. Many things Volvo developed and fitted to cars did set the stage for those things being used as a guide for legislation for safety standards but the Dual diagonal brake circuits didn't get picked up. Diagonal as they have used for 20 years is the next best thing given the ABS caused plumbing changes.
