AC Evaporator same between RHD and LHD?

Post by Fosgate »

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of removing my dash to repair it and while Im at it I might as well replace the AC evaporator as I have a feeling it might be leaking and also would be dirty as these models didn't have a cabin filter from factory.... It seems pretty hard and expensive to get Volvo parts here in OZ and I usually get my parts from States however as the US models are LHD I need to make sure that the AC evaporator is same in RHDs before placing the order.
So could someone who has done this can confirm this for me?

Thanks

You will be happy to know the climate job is completely different on a RHD. While the LHD is a like a colonoscopy with barbed wire, the RHD is like a hose with razors attached.

( it’s not that bad, actually, and when done you will have beautiful cool AC

Try searching by VIN at Volvo parts Lisle

Was there an S70 in 1997 down under?

Thanks Rick, so it looks like they are two different unit... maybe I can find something more affordable in UK...

Yep we had the first model of S70 being sold in OZ in 1997... it was missing the cabin filter though .. I had to find the plastic filter housing from later models.

Evaporator from UK is the best bet. You need the release tools in both sizes.

Yes without them you can pull on those pipes until the cows come home but they won't release.

Partner group AME (North America) is the only Volvo partner group that did not get a S70 in 1997.

AME = North America

70 models were built from early 97, maybe even week 50 1996. In North America they called them 98 models and that made for a very long 98 model year for those and a very short model year for the 1997 850s. Laws in some countries control how far ahead the upcoming model year can be called the next model year. The 70 models were launched at the same time for North America.
