Volvo 98 S70 Dipstick Tube replacement and tools required

What tools do I need and how do I both remove and reinstall the Dipstick Tube? Not familiar with this stuff so the more details the better. Thank you for your help!

Hello, welcome to MVS!

If I remember correctly, you just use a 10 or 12mm socket on the bolt near the top of the dipstick (that holds it in place). Once that's out, the whole thing should pop out of the oil pan with a small tug.

You replacing the o-ring or something down there?

No I just have to replace the tube because the new dipstick I had to order doesn’t fit in the old one, and therefore doesn’t pass smog check.

Yeah, believe there is an o-ring at the bottom and a bolt at the top under or near the intake manifold - almost identical to the V70 except possibly the part number and fitment.

Very quick replacement. Hopefully new tube comes with an o-ring. If it doesn't you might want to consider replacing it as they get old and can leak.

If you can find an exact fit, sure. If not, clean up and re-use the old one if it's still in one piece. Next time you order something from one of the online parts stores you could get a new one cheap. Less than a dollar for aftermarket, a few bucks for Genuine.
