96 850 odometer not working- odometer gear NOT broken

I was at the fuel pump and simply went to reset the trip meter and I noticed that the odometer stopped working. After researching this site, I figured like all the rest that the gears in mine were broken too so I ordered them. After taking the cluster apart to get to the odometer, I removed the electronic motor to which the gear is attached and low and behold- the gears were fine and NOT broken. Put the whole thing back together and took the car for a spin. Everything works but the odometer and trip meter. My thinking is that the electric motor is dead. Has anyone else had this experience and possibly know the part number for that motor? I wasted almost $30 on two gears I don't need.

When you had it out, did you look for defective solder joints and broken traces?
Did you look for a part number on the part?

On a '96 the motor typically is mounted on a daughterboard that plugs into some pins that extend out of the main cluster circuit board. You need to clean the pins really well and make sure that the motor board is plugged onto the pins firmly. I had two of them that gave me trouble due to not being seated well.
