So my 17 year old son liked my old C70 so much he bought a 2001 S60 T5 5 speed manual with his money from working at burger king. paid 750.00 bucks delivered. it had sat for 2 years but ran and drove good after we jumped it. so we put on jack stand and started going through it (calipers, suspension, evap leak, new battery) he changed the oil and filter, started it everything fine. one problem was trunk would not open so i tried the emergency trunk key lock. still didn't open so i cut the latch rod off and lock was bent so it couldn't open. bent it back out with screw driver and now cable will work. so after this i went to start it and everything is dead. not sure if it was anything to do with lock but was running fine minutes before. no power to door locks, dash, warning lights, emergency flashers security light. wont start or turn over. dome light comes on when i hook up the battery for a few minutes. rear cig. lighter has power. when key is turned to on position can hear the normal hum in engine compartment and a relay click under dash or console. checked all fuses in all fuse boxes. relay fuses under fuses in engine compartment. switched main relay with know good one, 12.5 volts at all fuse boxes with test light. So anyone know what we could check next. car isn't worth putting a lot of money into at a garage or dealer. any help would be greatly appreciated since this is his first car he bought with his own money and he really likes it.

Do a battery reset. Disconnect grd cable and then hold it against + post/cable for 10 seconds, then reconnect it. You will have to unlock it with remote to get full function after this as it will be in transport mode.

Did that but don't have a remote. I tried to lock And unlock with master key 5 times. That's when I noticed only the drivers door was locking and unlockin. Before it went dead it would lock or unlock all doors if I ruined key twice.

Plan on about $1000-2000 to bring back a Volvo from sitting dead. PCV system is important, even more important on a M56bmanual transmission as a rear engine oil seal leak won’t just be annoying, it will take out the clutch.

The ignition switch, Electrical part often gives rise to a wired electrical stuff.

So it all started when fiddling with the trunk latch, maybe it triggered some alarm behavior? From what I know, only way to calm down the alarm is the unlock button on the key fob. Or maybe some lock switch god damaged and now the alarm is confused ? I'd still look into the trunk latch, maybe undo the connector. Then I'd look on the rear main module at the trunk fuse panel.

Ok. I did unhook latch plugs with no change. I was thinking about that rear module. I'll try that next.
Hate to scrap a good running car cause of a electrical problem.

This is a long shot but try it anyway. Where battery is installed there are perhaps 5 large guage red leads branching off to the left side of the car. Further down there are 2 connectors which can corrode shutting down power to many modules and CEM.
Check their integrity. This pic is what I found on a 2007 XC90. I know you have test light confirmation but sometimes the load is not great enough.

This looks like a faulty CEM or DIM from the onset. It is replaceable. You'll need Vida/Dice to test this car if above fails to find anything.
