Humor, but fairly well illustrative of concept cars vs. reality...

Capsula is thought around an innovative concept: the one of the platform that includes engine, driving shaft, tank, spare wheel, trunk, servobrake, heater, optical groups.

The chassis is inspired by buses and small industrial vehicles, is completely equipped and self sufficient.

The compartment is a capsule applied to the chassis in a fast and easy way, and can be substituted in every moment transforming the Capsula in a commercial vehicle, or in an ambulance or in a rescue vehicle.

In the berline version, the research is focused on internal compartment, bigger than contemporary VW Golf 1 and Mercedes 380SE, in just 3720 mm length.

The Production Car Will Look Like the Concept

You Can Put Down a Deposit Now

On Porsche's website, there's a form for those who want to register their interest in buying a Taycan. Once that form is filled out, a Porsche dealer will contact those interested, who can then put a deposit down on the upcoming electric sedan. A Manhattan Porsche dealer told us the deposit is $2500.

Tesla's in hot water. They had better get ready for war. Everybody is coming at the electric market in 1-2 years... all the major car manufacturers are bringing several models to market.

No one seems to commit though. It's all nice on paper but far down the line or small volume Roadster like premium prototypes like Audi and Porsche doing. I haven't seen any announcements to make me think anyone will actually try for real to challenge Tesla's position in the next few years. A lot of companies like BMW are still at least officially in complete denial.

I don't think BMW is in denial so much as they simply acknowledge the reality that until some sort of fuel cell technology is perfected, pure EVs will have a limited market. Lithium batteries really aren't a good solution, only good for city dwellers 'tooling about town/routine daily commute' if you will. My friend that lives in a high rise condo building in Chicago couldn't get one if he wanted: the building parking garage isn't 'wired' for EV charging, the building association looked into it a few years ago and concluded the venture (would be a special assessment to all unit owners) to be cost prohibitive. Unit owners aren't specifically prohibited from having a charging station installed at their owned parking spaces, but the number$ to do so on an individual basis were crazy, =/+ the price of the car. People with more freedom to to do this on a reasonable budget - homeowners in more rural areas - are also the ones who tend to drive longer distances where anything less than a 400-500 mile range would be problem as rural areas/small towns are the places you're least likely to find a charging station when and where you will find yourself needing it.

 If you want to take a EV on a long run. Rent a tow behind generator and recharge on the go.
