How to replace the red seatbelt release button

Post by yair »

Just replaced the seat release buttons on my 1996 855.
These red buttons starts to break after 15-20 years of use, typically the front ones, as they get the most use.

Didn't find a thread that describes the procedure, so here it is:

You can get replacement buttons from IPD
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5513/11 ... cle-button

Or you can get them easily from a junkyard, the back seat buttons are identical to the front seats, and often do no see a lot of use, especially on sedans.

The buttons are held in place by a tab on each side and can be popped out with a small, flat screwdriver.

To release, push a screwdriver tip between the button and the black holder, and then twist the tab a bit outward, until it is released, repeat on other side.

Note that there is a small spring that pushes the button upward, you don't want to loose it.

To install, push the red button down until it clicks into place.

Some of these seatbelts have electrical connections to the SRS in which case be careful you don’t break a connection with the barttery connection.

The dealer tax to reset a SRS is $150
