2004-xc70 turbo does not shut off

Post by Momtreal »

My car sounds like it is an airplane, which is really cool to my kids but the joke is on me.

Just wondering what the causes could be before heading in to the garage, Can I disconnect, Do I need the turbo>?

New to you car? I'm assuming you are not the original owner.

Potentially an exhaust system leak. If so, it could be dangerous with exhaust fumes leaking into the car.

I bought her second hand 6 years ago, I have lots of little kinks with the car but usually runs well enough when I need her. I had replaced the full exhaust system 2 years ago as well as the gas tank etc etc.. When I turn her on I hear the fan starting up and it stays on the whole time but does not affect driving. I will bring her back to the garage, Thank you :)

If it's coming on right when the car starts up, it might be the engine cooling fan, not the turbocharger. This can happen sometimes when the engine coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning or disconnected, the computer will kick the fan in all the time to compensate.
Cars I've owned:
- 2015 to current: 2001 Volvo V70 2.4T; 2004 Honda Odyssey
- 2007 to 2015: 2002 Subaru Legacy L Wagon
- 2003 to 2016: 2001 Toyota Corolla LE
- 1999 to 2003: 1994 Toyota Camry LE

I think this needs a little clarification. Is it the cooling fan that runs full speed all the time and your car has a turbo or is it something with the turbo?

I'm also betting on the rad fan, either bad controller or blown coolant sensor - check see if the temp gauge it's climbing steadily from cold to 12. Kennyupull at Laval has plenty of rad fans for not much

Try this guy near Dorval, he's not expensive and been honest with me Modulepro 558 Avenue Marshall, (514) 636-2886

There's also Swedish Leasing and Sales but haven't dealt with them

Just pop,the hood and see if it’s the radiator fan making the roar

Don’t put your fingers near it!
