V50 roof rail installation

Post by ande2 »

Hi, trying to put on rails on my v50.
I have the official instruction on how to remove the roof trims before doing so.
The instructions tells to pull them outwards with fingertips and then lift them out.
This seems to be impossible as they dont move anywhere by hands.
Has anybody done this snd if so how did you manage to get them off. Afraid to use too much force or tools so the paint doesnt get damaged.

Hi, curious how it turned out for you.
Also where did you find the instructions and what roof rails did you put in?

Well i haven’t started yet as i appears it is not so easy as the instructions suggest. I am mostly afraid of breaking the clips and or the trim as it seems to be very hard in place. I’ll do it when i can assure the availablity of clips.

From where did you buy your OEM rails?

Well i could have bought them from the local volvo dealer but i got them used from ebay.
I think they were like 300€ from volvo dealer.
Paid 80€ for rails and an extra set of ready cut trims. I had the idea that i would put the rails on when i need and otherwise run without them but as the swapping is not so easy as it should be i don’t want to go back and forth.
