S80 gearbox swap

Hi i really need help my volvo s80 2.0t with a B5204t5 engine had a gearbox brake down. I try to find the correct part but nobody can really help. I gave my vin number to volvo and they say that from my vin number the correct part will be M56 gearbox. Is M56 different from M56L? I see on ebay many m56l gearboxes but very few m56 . How can i be sure which part is correct? VIN NUM: YV1TS494251406592 AND ENGINE B5204T5 (1023774 and 1023822 are numbers on the gearbox also 456r7002ea) please help me to buy the correct gearbox.

Volvo could be a little more helpful - they could state exactly which M56 you have. Have you tried punching in your transmission part number and looked for an interchange? Maybe call another dealer and ask what other cars have the same part number.

Depending what is wrong with your transmission you may be able to source the replacement parts from an "incorrect" transmission as it appears many parts are shared.

Your set up is extremely rare in the USA.

That is a chart with ratios. I'm unsure of other differences in the gearboxes.

Thanks i just got the volvo order number for my gearbox it is 8252112 does anyone know if this number corresponds to m56 gearbox and is m56 gearbox different from m56l? I can see from the ratio charts the differences between m56l m56h and m56lk is m56 a different gearbox or not?
