H AC vacuum Pod repair? ??

Post by dm635 »

Wanting to know if the double nipple vacuum Pod is repairable. At this point the heater core housing is removed awaiting a replacement heater core due today. The only time the vacuum Pod is accessible with the housing off since the nuts holding the pod are on the inside with the heater core. I took off the pod hoping there was something I could do. I put in a rubber piece hope to eliminate the vacuum leak. Using my vacuum pump all the pods worked as they should except for the one with ripped rubber that seals that half of the pod.

This nipple on the double nipple Pod still has a leak. It is the nipple with the yellow vacuum hose going to it. The one we remove from the pod and plug if there is a problem. Usually effects air flow from blowing from the centre vents during acceleration. Too thin of rubber used during manufacturing to hold up to the job.

I can't find any listing of any pod on any of the normal Volvo sites. And I don't know how to search for the actual Volvo parts listing. I need my 960 back on the road asap once the heater core arrives. Been down over a week and I simply need it on the road. I wish I knew how to post pics just to show how disassembled the 960 is. It's a real mess. Only way to do it was to just dig in working my way to the firewall. Refitting all the removed duct work without breaking anything just may end up being the worst part of the job. Thanks Dave

Back in the spring one of the main reasons I turned down the decision to purchase a Red 960 wagon was because of a bad heater core. There were some other issues also. And I've come to find out that color of Red on a 960 is actually one of the rarer colors on the 960. It did look good. A color I'd really like to have is that dark purple. Almost looks to be black, but I really do like it. BMW had a couple shades of dark purple as well. One was called Techno Violet.
