Re: 95 850 - No forward gears
Yes, doesn't go forward in any mode/gear. It seems like it doesn't even try to go into any gear, e.g. no noise, jerk, clunk, change of RPM, nothing.

Here's a write up for replacing the solenoids in the front of the transmission: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=65527
I had limited success but you may get luckier.

That was a great a write-up. Did you have the same symptoms and what was the outcome? I'd tackle this if there was a good chance of success. I'd broken down and had the thing towed to a tranny shop for diagnosis. They claim there is no pressure for forward gears and want to remove the trans from the car for full diagnosis in the hope it can be repaired without a complete rebuild which apparently would cost upward of $2500.

The valve body is probably the culprit here. May be worth a try swapping it over. Some have tried here (ex-moderator jblackburn) just swap in the offending solenoid with great success.

I ran the set of tests available through the TCM and it came back with code 232 (0500) no Vehicle speed sensor signal. I'm considering ordering one to replace it but they are going for around $150. Any chance this could be the cause of the issue or just another unrelated problem? I don't want to throw away money if it has no chance of fixing the problem. Otherwise, I'm about to sell/junk the car.

If the transmission doesn't know how fast you're going, it's not going to engage a gear for fear of blowing itself up. It is a little weird that it'll engage reverse, but that might be a different parameter. My old T5-R didn't have any kind of measure to prevent it from being put in reverse while moving forward, and I always thought that was an error in the trans, but it might just be a thing.

So I finally got the speed sensor and put it in, didn't help, still no forward. Interestingly, with the car on jackstands, the front wheels will slowly turn forward when in gear but when down on the ground, not enough force to move the car.

The power input shaft from the engine is turning inside the transmission, probably churning fluid that's passively washing around the output component to rotate the wheels when there's no resistance, but what's lacking is a firm connection via the clutch(es) between the input shaft and the output part. Assuming it's not the pnp switch, that still seems to suggest a failed solenoid that doesn't engage the clutch(es).
Did you mention whether the trans fluid looks reasonably clean and doesn't smell burnt?
