C70 window regulator

Post by redc70 »

Hello all, hope all of us in the USA had a great Thanksgiving! Good luck with Black Friday!
Every time I get ready to put RedC70 up for sale, it seems another problem needs to be solved:
Had the drivers window down after going through the bank teller and when it started to roll up I heard a SNAP! and it moved a little slower with a scratching sound. Would not go up all the way without some extra help. Reading the online forums here and elsewhere it seems this is the window regulator wanting to be replaced? I took the door panel off this morning and sprayed lube on every moving part I could find including the cable. I noticed that when the window was all the way down the cable was quite slack. Is that normal?
Is replacing and adjusting these all that difficult? (I've read that it is) I ordered a repair kit that includes new cables, a few springs and a roller or two. Also watching a complete used regulator off ebay if needed.
I did this job on my Mercedes 300E a few months ago and was a piece of cake. The Volvo? Not so much...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as usual.
many thanks!!!

I looked at a C70 a while back, but the catch was the driver's side window didn't work. Looked up the price (it is horribly expensive!!!). Also spoke to my ever helpful local dealer shop foreman. He shuddered at the thought of replacing or trying to align one of those. Decided I didn't need the car that badly so passed on it.

I found little useful advice on repairs for it on how to align, even in my version of Vida.

I wish you luck.

Neil.

Had I known of these silly little issues with the 1st gen C70 cabrio, I never would have bought it at any price. I'm more of a Merc W124 and W126 owner, and Volvo has never made a car compared to these. After RedC70 is gone, I'll look for another 560SEC to make my current one happy!

Yes, a V70 t5 would be sweet...
I would love to do some performance mods on this, like a turbo back exhaust, 3" downpipe and tune. I just don't know how long it is going to hold together. I can do all the work, not sure about all the alignment and adjustments for the regulator though. Not happy with her at the moment!
