2004 XC90 fuel smell

I have another question as it relates to this repair. I put the new sending unit in last night. When I tighten the ring, I can only get it so tight before the sending unit starts to spin with the ring as I'm tightening. Is there a trick to getting the unit to stay in place as the ring gets tightened down?
