'06 low beams are horrible

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

'06 low beams are horrible

Post by litewait »

My sons is driving 50 miles back and forth to school now in the '06 S80. Is there anything that can be done to increase the brightness of the standard low beams? He says its like driving with your headlights off... and I believe him the S60 we have is just as bad.

Can I use these ? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/hid-he ... 2r#reviews

Or maybe these? https://www.headlightexperts.com/low-be ... nology-kit

Thanks.

I would tell you to start by making sure your headlights are properly aligned. The check to see if the plastic lenses are hazy. Lots of $10 kits out there that work well to polish them (whether you want to seal them for the long term is your choice - some of the more expensive kits have the sealant included).

To your question, some have had success with changing headlight bulbs or the color temperature of the bulbs. Just make sure what ever you install is legal b/c cars coming at you will suffer and you could get a ticket.

You are able to plug in leds, but you will receive a constant warning. Even though the amount of lighting will improve, the "light image/beam" will become worse (I've tried). My advice would be to stick with proper halogen bulbs like Osram Nightbreaker bulbs.

The reflectors burn out from the heat of continuous running headlights (daytime running lights) over years. 2006 should have glass lenses like my 2004. On my 2004 S80 I had my headlight housings replaced this year due to burned reflectors and it was a night and day difference. So rather than replacing the bulbs with some technology or bulb color you may consider housing replacement. I had Volvo replace them and attached turn signals at a total cost of $1,500 parts and labor, but several much cheaper aftermarket housings are available.

Notice the reflector of the new housing has a updated reflector design and how much brighter the new reflector is. Your car is likely suffering from the same problem. June

Looking at the pictures side by side the new turn signals have matching updated reflector design to match headlights. Volvo thinks of everything! LOL I love the new lights, worth every penny! June

That is night and day indeed. Tip: replace the amber bulbs with these chrome ones, looks a lot better imho and gets rid of the "fried egg" look. It looks like I already have the updated design in my car if I compare my pictures below.
