Hello all! First time post and new to Volvos. I have always wanted one(I am a sucker for wagons). I have owned many VWs and am no stranger to working on a vehicle
After searching multiple sites and reading a plethora of quality info from this forum I am still at a loss. My car has 152k miles and I picked it up relatively cheap. When I bought it I scanned it with a generic code scanner and it came pack with a P1332 code. The ETS light was also on but after reading I thought it was due to the solenoid. I bought a new solenoid and checked the wiring harness for it, now the car runs much better and the check engine light is off but the ETS light is on. The car runs great, idles fine but when I clear the ETS code with my scanner the car doesn't want to start and makes a whining sound when I put it in reverse. The ETS light will remain off until I shut down the car and turn it back on. When the light is back it runs fine with no noise and is easy to start. I plan on getting Vida or a icarsoft I906 after Christmas but in the meantime I was checking to see if anyone had experienced similar symptoms.i know it may be the throttlebody or the throttle pedal sensor but the noise has me confused. Plus it runs awesome. Any help is appreciated.

No it goes into gear fine no harsh engagement. It only does it right after I clear the ETS light. It usually only makes the sound in reverse too.

The ETS light Is a good diagnostic for a throttle body problem. VIDA will let you monitor the two contacts and if they are in sync, usually one of them wears out, gives spurious readings, and the throttle body faults
155k is getting 8nto fat part of the Gaussian failure curve, I had one go at 137k and one at 200k
Revel in all those distributor caps, rotors, and wires you didn’t have to buy.
It’s a $500 fix or two and a half, on average, $100 attempts of junkyard parts and labor to fix it.

The combo of symptoms is very odd. When the light is off can you hear the ETM doing the self diagnostic whine then click off after about 8 secs of having ignition on PosII ?
