2004 V70: PEM relocation - missing harness plug?

Post by chrisco314 »

Hi,

I am currently following instructions here: https://tinyurl.com/ybwdh5mn for replacing the PEM for my 2004 V70. I bought a replacement PEM from the wrecker ($50), and the wiring harness from the dealer. The harness plugs into the PEM at one end, and has two plugs at the other. The smaller of the two used to connect from the wiring harness to the old PEM (I assume), a wire that goes down through the rightside access panel under the back seat. For the other plug, I can find no obvious receptacle. Images attached.

Anyone have this problem or could offer suggestions?

The PDF had a poor quality picture, but seemed to have a plug where I have my red clip puller tool. For a data point, I did try hooking back up the airbag sensors (to the seats) and try starting the car, but it would not start. I wonder if there is just something lost in translation, or if there is some hidden plug somewhere.

Thanks!

So it turns out that despite the dealer selling me the relocation cable, the PEM on my 2004 v70 cannot be relocated as there is no plug for it on the harness, it has a simplified pump / filter / whatever in the tank, for my steel gas tank variant. I think I saw another poster saying that he cut the wiring harness and moved it to under the seat somehow, but for the time, cost, and risk, it didn't seem worth it to go to that effort. I got my PEM for $50 from the wrecker, and it should last a while. If I wanted to spend more, I could buy it from FCP Euro with their lifetime warranty.

So lesson learned, call he dealer first to figure out if there is a wiring harness available for your VIN, ask them the same question four or five different ways to be sure, and if you have a steel tank, just put it back where it was.

Ouch. That is clearly spelled out in VIDA too,by the way

When I did my 2005 PEM, it went back on top as the documentation said the upgrade did not apply
