Rad removal without A/C lines disconnect - possible?

Post by pdr1966sc »

06 V70R

I have spent - a lot now - of time having the rad, IC, condenser all loose and ready to come out, but It REALLY appears to me that you must disconnect the A/C lines on at least one side of the assembly.
Can someone please confirm, and or suggest the sequence to tip/turn/drop/raise the rad to get it out alone without having to undo the A/C lines................

Thanks
Pete

PROGRESS and a few tips - YES this is do-able lessons learned:
There is wiring duct which has one 8mm head bolt securing the plastic wire duct it to the subframe with this removed you can push the wire hareness/duct around just enough more to get the Rad out lowering Passenger side 1st.
There is also a bolt/bracket for the A/C line to the frame rail side, but that did not improve the movement much.

For 15 bucks a year you can access VIDA INFO THROUGH all data which will give you factory procedures on you car. The wiring harness bolt on the Subframe is common to P80 and P2 chassis but I’m sure there are other differences in model years that you need to know about.

Not sure the differences, but on my '01 V70 2.4T, I took the radiator and intercooler out as a single unit. Made it much easier than trying to extract the radiator alone. I recall the AC lines being very close, but I did not have to disconnect them in order to remove it.
Cars I've owned:
- 2015 to current: 2001 Volvo V70 2.4T; 2004 Honda Odyssey
- 2007 to 2015: 2002 Subaru Legacy L Wagon
- 2003 to 2016: 2001 Toyota Corolla LE
- 1999 to 2003: 1994 Toyota Camry LE

Anyone in the Northeast fear AC not. I’m happy to help vacuum out and recharge an AC on a schedule when I cruise by. Notwithstanding all the fearmongering of the AC industry, you can open an AC, pump it down a few days later, without replacing everything. I’ve done 12 systems now for friends and family , all running with good AC performance years later. These are on well maintained AC systems

If you have been “ adding some Freon” or “ topping off”

1 you suck

2 you just lost all that money you saved replacing expensive stuff
