Do rear hatch springs have a life?

Yes. The hatch shocks get weak over time. They are a little tough to replace if I remember correctly.

Mine made it about 16 years - Stabilus only for replacements.
Be careful with the trim getting to the mounting points, but the
actual swap is pretty straight forward. Be sure to support the
hatch securely while you work.

Definitely get coil-overs for the rear tailgate =p

And now I'm feeling sorry for them, stuck in the dark garage, not lifting the hatch at all today. :(

For what it's worth, I'm 3.5 happy years into my Uro units. I usually avoid Uro, but on parts of minimal consequence I give them a chance. I'm sure they won't last sixteen years, but which us knows he'll have his car for even four?

That said, the price difference is pretty small. I bought the Uros for convenience, not savings.
