Door Open Sensor Stopped Working

Post by WhatAmIDoing »

Last week during a cold snap, the sensors that says whether the driver's door is open stopped working. Thought it would start working when it got warmer out, but alas it did not. Want to get this fixed since it messes with the alarm and now I have no courtesy lights. Problem is I cannot quite figure out how this system works. I don't see a button anywhere like I was expecting. How does the system work that tells the car whether the driver's door is open? Really hoping I do not have to pull the door panel off to fix this... :?

Also, my door check is bad. And when it's icy out, the door has a tendency to not want to latch closed. Not sure if either of those might have something to do with it.

I think the switch is buried in the driver door lock mechanism so it might be a door panel off operation. Not a big deal, you can still buy the plastic clips in case some break from age and get a clean reinstall.

Interesting update: Dome lights now come on again when drivers door is open along with the green ignition light, but the floor courtesy light and the "don't forget your keys" chime are still not working. Also, the alarm still won't activate if I lock the doors from the master switch and then close it. I have to close the doors and lock with the key. Starting to think this switch might be way more complicated than I originally thought.

I may pull the door panel now once I get some replacement clips and take a look. Trying to get in quickly the other day, My boot caught the panel and ripped it part way off, breaking some of the clips.

IIRC, there are two switches built into the door latches,
one for the security system and another for the lights.

Before you go to crazy on this, I would look first at the wiring harness where it enters the door. I have had several of the wires snap through use affecting door locks, mirror operation and more.

If someone can supply the pin out for the door connector for the harness it still requires the inner panel to come off but you can then buzz each wire out for continuity. The wire breaks are a pain to get to as the harness makes a sharp turn downwards where it enters the door and that is where wires tend to break.
