1998 V70 Infamous random stall no start. I have some questions
Hello forum my 1998 v70 is being a pain in my ASS. I have the infamous stalling while driving no start then starts and runs great later that day problem. I would really appreciate someone giving me a very informative checklist to go through to diagnose my problem. Preferably one of the many of you that have had this experience before. I have read almost all of the forums about this subject but would love the help troubleshooting it so I can drive my one and only car around with my family without worrying about being stranded. 1. After stalling the second time I unplugged my maf to see no change and it didn't start until I waited again don't believe it's that. 2. My fuel pump relay looks almost brand new and I believe has been replaced before my ownership. 3. Where the pcv system attaches to the intake (where the flametrap is that someone already took out) one of the two vacuum lines that leads to the flametrap are busted and I'm assuming is drawing in unmetered air into the intake. Is that a possible culprit? Is it possible for me to take that out let it vent to atmosphere and plug my intake with no repercussion to see if it fixes the problem? 3. It doesn't idle surge at all stays right at 900 without skipping a beat even when the problem is about to happen. Car runs very well when it doesn't stall. Before it stalls it takes multiple cranks and is harder to start right before it stalls, it's like it knows something's up before I even start it. It's usually a half mile or so after I start moving then stalls. I have a cel for o2 sensor to the best of my knowledge. I've been doing simple diagnostics, before I start wrenching on shit I would like one of y'all to help me out and lead me in the right direction. This is my first white block I'm a rwd guy and it's all new to me. Thanks for reading i would really appreciate any input and plan to stay active on my post.

Added year model to title.
Take a look at the fuel pump relay and see if it says FAE on it.
That stands for Fail Aften Early, they are a really bad replacement part
How many miles on car and when was the ignition coil, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires serviced? These are 15000-30000 mile replacement items

What is the date on the fuel pump relay. I would install a jump wire and see if that helps.
Is the car turbo? How old is the fuel pump? What are the codes?

I have only have the vehicle for 1000 miles it has 240000 so yeah she's seen her share of roads and I'm sure parts. I cannot accurately tell you when any of the parts you guys have asked about were replaced. The most recent work done was a full timing belt kit in August. The car is not turbo. I'm gonna take another look at the fuel pump relay and get back to you. If you suggest the first thing I do is a full tune up I will, but the gentleman I bought the car from took great care of it and don't believe he would have neglected it that badly. Especially since he put 200k on it. But I'm gonna do what you all suggest. Thanks guys I'll be checking back after I take a look at my relay. Any word about that vacuum line I mentioned?
After a day of driving about 25 miles yesterday. Now when I hopped in it to go to work it had a hard time starting and I'm not gonna drive it because I can tell it's doing it. This is the third time and it was raining everytime not sure if that may trigger any ideas. I'm gonna replace the ignition coil cap plugs etc. Tomorrow on my day off. When I rev it it's like it gets a hiccup and my car has a slight shake. It's a harder momentary shake with the more pressure I give the pedal. It's been at idle and hasn't stalled but is telling me something is up. The fuel pump relay is the red one it looks oem Volvo and doesn't say FAE.

Wat is the date on the Volvo fuel ump relay? Try putting in a jumper wire in place of the fuel pump relay, it is a really really really easy troubleshooting test.

1) I'd bet the farm your problem is the fuel pump relay. When my Volvo brand relay failed, I had very similar symptoms. A general tune up wouldn't hurt either if you are unsure of the age of components.
2) Do the PCV service if you cracked/broken hoses. No aftermarket parts on this job.
3) What are the specific codes you are getting?

Ok everybody after going through the cars ignition system I've ruled that out. After suggestions and some more research I'm almost positive it's gonna be my fuel pump relay . Now let me get this right. I pretty much make the jump wire, wait for my problem once again, replace the relay with the wire and if it fixes it done deal replace the relay? And in that instance would it be okay to temporarily drive my wagon with the jump wire in place until I get my relay without worrying? Thanks everybody for their suggestions and helping me out. I'm not a rich man and I don't like other people fixing my cars. (Those two things may coincide
). After that if it's not my relay and I replace the pump and its not that as well. I will curl into a ball and cry in the back and listen to my new pump.
I only have a code for my o2 sensor that Ive had before the issue and am procrastinating that until I decide to do brakes and a control arm I have. Unless someone tells me my bad o2 could be the source of my stalls? That would blow my mind.
