Same to you and yours, and everybody else here!
Me too, it shouldn't be long now! Just wrapping up selling my Miata to my cousin and then I'm going to crack down and get the last of everything done. I can't wait to drive it, it's been a project for too long!

I ended up emailing Rotella's tech department, not expecting a response, but received an email today. In short, Rotella T6 exceeds API SG/CD standards and is perfectly acceptable to use in older gas or diesel motors. "Rotella T6 does not meet API SN standards stating a maximum of 800ppm zinc and phosphorus, which is meant to protect cataytic converters. Rotella T6 contains approximately 1100-1300ppm phosphorus, and is not intended for use in vehicles with catalytic converters." Basically, it sounds like it meets API SH standards and is perfectly safe to use in our Volvos, but doing so may shorten the life of your cat... maybe.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2018, 12:00Good to know! That's what you need to remember though, these cars are older and have older standards for oil quality. If T6 meets the SH rating, I would be comfortable using it too.WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 18:29 Did a lot of research on this last night (I was bored). After sifting through all the fear mongering posts by keyboard oil experts, I concluded the issue only seems to be with the phosphorus content in Rotella T6 diesel oil. Allegedly P hurts cat efficiency over time. API SN rating requires P levels be below 800ppm, but Rotella T6 5w-40 allegedly contains 1350ppm P. The Volvo manual calls for oil rated API SH or SG/CD rated. SH oil can have a max of 1400ppm P. So in my book, I thing Rotella T6 is perfectly fine in a turbo Volvo. Might pony up the $56 to have the mobil1 in my car tested by Blackstone, then get the Rotella T6 tested after 5k miles of driving just to compare the results.
Rotella T6 seems to go back and forth with their API S certification. Some 2018 batches have it and some don't even though the bottles are identical. Rotella T6 5w40 was API SL and SM certified at a time for a while. Also appears Shell has no intention marketing T6 for passenger car use, so they might not even bother getting T6 API S certified regularly.
The EPA gonna EPA...![]()

It has been a great year driving my C70 convertible. Being the last day of the year 2018,chose to give the old gal a good clean-up. This is probably be the last of driving this car for a few months because when the weather gets bad and salt goes down, this will be the end of the season. She goes in the garage and covered for the winter. Thanks for listening.

My awesome girlfriend gave me a bottle of CarPro Hydro02 and a Meguiars Clay kit as a late Christmas gift. The bonnet and the roof of my S70 need a good cleaning, now just wait for a few dry days here in the Netherlands (and that's quite something in our winters).

Wow, I'm surprised they actually said it was okay for older gas engines! Thanks for posting this!WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑31 Dec 2018, 17:14

First of all: I wish all of you the best wishes for 2019! Where I'm from, we like to say something like: "I hope you slide well through the new year". Yeah... we Dutchies are weird. Anyway, today I ordered a new battery for my S70. Maybe that's the culprit in the sudden hiccups at low rpm. I had something similar happen to my old Saab 9000. The battery went bad - and I didn't really notice it - and it gave all kinds of weird symptoms and lights lighting up on the dash. And tomorrow will be a dry day so I can clay, polish, compound and seal the S70 with all my new car cleaning stuff my gf gave me for christmas. I'll make some photo's to show you guys the results!

Happy New Year, everyone!
My brother found a set of Volvo integrated rear-seat boosters, which I installed today in the '98 V70. The 6-year-old tried it out and liked it, so that was a highlight. Also picked up a set of OE steel wheels and hubcaps for snow tires for cheap (and cleaned them)!

Finally got the cheapo aftermarket axle ripped out of the R today. I had to rent a slide hammer and CV axle remover attachment from Autozone (wish I had just done that before going to two different Harbor Freights to find a slide hammer set that had a jaw puller included) and MAN I wish I had done that two months ago when I was fighting with this axle the last tine! Once I got it on there, a few good blows and that sucker popped right out.
Now on the hunt to track down a used Volvo axle... this is a lot harder than you would think!
