2001 Volvo V70 2.4T
I’m slowly working my way through a suspension rebuild and just took the front strut apart. Shouldn’t there be a little piece of rubber that goes between the bottom of the spring and the strut? My old one didn’t have one on it, but that doesn’t mean much lol. I watched some videos for P80’s and they didn’t seem like it. It just seems like it’s gonna squeak or something without one there.
Front coil spring insulator?

The upper spring seat has rubber cushioning. But the lower seat is metal-to-metal. Just make sure that once it's all together that the spring is clocked to a position that puts the lower end of the spring coil all the way against the bottom of the spring pocket.

First years didn't got that bottom rubber piece. I think it started around 2005&up. So it's not really a problem. There is a second rubber 'jacket' over the last two coils, to prevent rubbing against the chassis at full turn

I was wondering the exact same thing for my 2004 V70R. I don't suppose there is any harm in adding these insulators?
When I purchase new shocks and springs, I would think adding these rubber insulators would help mitigate rust forming on the springs and noise, if any.
I see FCP has these https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... r-30666315.

I never knew the exact purpose of that. The rub spots in the wheel well make sense now.by oragex » Yesterday, 07:50

Excellent idea.by Rattnalle » 31 Dec 2018, 08:43
I've replaced it with a simple piece of tubing cut lengthwise
