My 2004 XC70 is getting new brake rotors, pads at all 4 corners and new rubber brake lines up front. I really didn't want to try to cut rotors again since these brake rotors are really old and abused. I opted for "Zimmerman " brake rotors since Ive been wanting to try this brand. I'm using premium ceramic brake pads at all 4 corners w/sylglide on the backing plate of pads. I'm cleaning the caliper pins, regressing them and usi g new disc brake set screws.

Is it just me, or do you hate this " What did you do to your P2 Volvo today" thread as a sticky? Don't get me wrong I love the forum but now 90% of the forum postings go into this thread so it becomes a random mish-mash of topics rather than having a thread for each topic. This to me diminishes the power of being able to select which threads are of interest and being able to look at those that are relevant. Now I find I have to page thru pages of stuff I'm not particularly interested in to find the few nuggets.

I'm sure I'll be flamed - but just my opinion..

You won't be flamed because we don't do that here.

I don't think this thread replaces a lot of content because most don't want to start a new thread every time they work on the car. When the thread does turn into a good content discussion, I try to cut out the meat and start a topic in the usual format of year model issue

I've been trying to make MVS more searchable with use of Volvo part numbers, let us know if there are topics we can find for you

Replaced leaking power steering reservoir and hose on the '04 XC70 and recalibrated the driver side window up/down auto stop. Replaced PS fluid that I turkey bastered out of the reservoir with some fresh Pentosin CHF 11S -- the green stuff. Existing fluid was a little dark. Cleaned up a bit around the engine bay and topped up oil and washer fluid.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have trouble getting the PS reservoir out? I understand the plastic clip and how it mounts to the coolant overflow tank, but I can never successfully release it. Ended up cutting through the plastic tab with a Dremel cut off wheel since the reservoir was leaking anyway and wouldn't be reused. But I am suspicious of those videos where they release seemingly without effort.

It is a good idea indeed to just cut that upper tab. Mine works fine but if the reservoir was never lifted, it can get exasperating trying to release that tab. The reservoir has anyway two slides on the coolant tank which are good enough to keep it in place. Small warning about lifting the coolant tank, always undo the connector of the level sensor, pulling on the sensor wire is a good way to cause the sensor to fail (it will display 'coolant low' with the tank full)

It's got just enough slack to let you see the connector for coolant level before it snaps... :D

Goldie (the girls 04' V70) got the royal treatment this week. We brought her to our indie who took care of some major work:

TB with WP and related parts, all OEM of course
New serpentine belt and installation of another good used one
New cam seals, plus new CVVT hub seals (the while we are in there kind of thing)
PCV replaced, all passage ways cleared out.
New dip stick seal
New lower Cat, DEC brand (had the same installed on my 05' and it's holding up really well)
Turned off the stupid driving lights, a better solution is in the works.

Cost for all this is darn close to the market value of the car, but I decided to invest, because -
a) I could not locate another wagon with less miles that comes even close to the condition of this car.
b) Mechanic confirmed the engine and trans are otherwise super healthy
c) My older daughter really likes this car

Oh, and she got a nice black steering wheel with matching steering column covers which I installed 2 weeks ago. I found this through a fellow forum member in CA.

The only thing that truly determines market value.

True, true.

CEL came on again, same cat low efficiency code as before. This basically means that the manifold cat is shot too. Sigh...
Preparing to spend another $600.
