Coolant Reservoir lifespan question...

For the kid far away (Chicago) I just sent the 99 Camry. Almost nothing breaks on that car.

Haha,

I used to have a Camry and Corolla.
They still break but smaller stuff, nothing catastrophic.

The Volvos are a bit more "delicate" to handle, but also a better car than Camry (boring).

My reservoir is fine. However, the rubber hose lost it's plasticity and wouldn't keep a tight seal at the reservoir connection at around 115k miles. This resulted in a slow drip of about 1/2 quart of fluid every 3-6 months from the bottom of the reservoir that would drip down the area around the front bushing on the LCA. Tightening the hose clamp slowed it down but it didn't stop until I replaced the rubber hose.

Just popped into my skull from years ago.

We serviced a neglected Ford truck's cooling system and cleaned the reservoir with some leftover swimming pool filter cleaning agent (no label, just a gallon jug). It made the dirty thing look new, I swear.

I was afraid to let the stuff touch my skin because it worked so well. Sorry I don't have the name.

+1 on the stiffened hose posted above.

I am in Texas and I have not replaced a failed P2 coolant reservoir except for level sensor hanging. Plastic pieces die sooner here. Not a bad idea to replace it as it will happen eventually and it is better to hand money to a parts guy than to a tow truck driver.
