So, Volvo in the US (North America) has a 0.5% market share
This means if you randomize your search pattern ( hard to do) you should pass 199 cars of other makes before you see another Volvo. Most will pass far fewer. In Ithaca once, I saw 5 Volvo in a row ahead of me.
Methodology. I start counting 10 minutes from home , and count oncoming cars in between Volvo sightings
Recent data
8,3,13,27,15,11,63,9
When I get to30 counts I’ll make a Volvo metric
If I go a 10 house radius around me, about 30 homes, this 60 cars..
I count 8 Volvo’s!

Ha, yeah...Ithaca was, probably still is, a Volvo haven when I did a spell at Cornell in '93. Anyhow, I live in South Florida (Palm Beach County) and I'm always aware of any Volvos when I'm out and about. Just last week, going east 4 miles to the ocean I saw 6 or 7 Volvos (C70, S60's, XC60, XC70 and a S90) no P80's unfortunately. Anyhow, that really surprised, good sighting!

As a Swede I'd never be able to keep count and still be able to drive. I'd need to have a co driver count for me. They're everywhere.
Counting American cars might be more doable since there are barely any. Even the Chevrolet-bramded Daewoos outnumber all the actual American cars.

I never really tried to count how many Volvo vehicles I see e everyday but I see 3 everyday in my backyard parking area. But I do see the Cross Country models quite frequently (XC70 p2/p3, V70XC/V70 p80, Xc90, XC60).

Good question. There are a lot of Volvos in my area. But there is a lot of everything in my area.

Counting doesn’t really tell you much, but counting cars between will give a rough idea of market share in your area.
You have to watch for intrinsic biases like if you commute to work by the Volvo Service center
The highway is a pretty good place where you can observe cars while still driving safely.

A little off topic: I saw my first XC40 in the wild today. It looks fantastic. It's not for me, but it looks beautiful. It was blue.

That’s a single day, number of cars passing me on left going the other way that are NOT Volvo’s. I reset each time a Volvo passes me. Those numbers then tell me rough ratio of Volvo to losers....I mean, other brands
