2004 V70 rough running, ignition coil /sparks!

Post by jonesg »

I think I dropped a coil, very unbalanced idle, rough running until rpms get higher.

Trying Vida, my 2014d login failed, worked previously last year after installing a date patch file.
Does this occur every new year?
Laptop was stored in my car, very cold here in maine, battery was flat.
Computer date shows 2009.
Can I just change the date..to?

I have to drive 4 hrs for surgery on monday, I have a new coil, just need to scan and fix asap.
Thanks.

Try this cycle 5x

Stop, key off
Pull coil plug
Start, idle...better or worse?
Turn car off
Reconnect coil plug
Repeat on all 5 cylinders

Avoid temptation to pull plugs with engine running or key on.

Start at cylinder 3, then 4,2,1,5

Great, thanks for the heads up on the proper procedure.
I've got a kerosine heater lit in my garage, hopefully the tools warm up, bitchin cold up here, minus 5.

If you do get to pulling coils, make sure the M6 bolt (10mm socket) is tight and clean each time you test/install the coil. Its also the secondary ground so it has to be a good electrical connection to work.

You can also pull all the plugs, label them, and look for signs of misfire.

Also may try this
Don't drive with a misfire, at worst disconnect the injector on that cylinder at the very least (but don't drive uphill or accelerate too much)

Don't forget to pull and inspect the spark plugs as see if the top of the engine gets too hot (even if the gauge stays at 12)

I honestly don't find any huge difference disconnecting each coil in turn. Are the plugs next then?

Ok I'll try that running test in the morning, I'm all out of time for getting in deeper, I might have drive it to death to reach a car rental.

I'm scheduled for major cancer surgery tuesday morning, its 4 hrs away, i might just have to rent a car at the first town along 95, nothing available here.

Check spark plugs.

Re coil, usually you get a CEL light and codes.

You have health issue, best is to ask someone or rent a car to have your surgery, no need to add more stress to your life.

I have CEL , cannot read codes vadis has a date conflict on loading. No response on the vadis forum, just out of time and luck.

We've rented a car but still need to get to it, it's 90 miles away.
Thanks anyway.

Fir a 90 mile run, I would leave it home and beg a ride from someone to the rental. You don't need a breakdown this week. God Bless and good luck with surgery.
