code 132 1 3 2 Engine Speed Sensor

Post by karageorge2 »

On 94 850 turbo wagon.

Does anyone have any experience with code 132 on A7 (comb Instr.)?

I am getting this code to be Engine Speed Sensor Incorrect/Absent.

Is the speed sensor located under the air filter housing on top of the transm? small sensor held in by single screw bracket and has 2 wires to it?

and does anyone know of a way to test it?

I can clear the code but it comes back.

I am having a slight idle stutter. The rpm gauge shows 850 at idle but it is not idleing totally smooth.

No other codes at present and no cel.

had a 232 fuel trim at idle but cleared it and never returned.

Thanks for your help.

Or is code 1 3 2 on A7 no RPM sensor signal.

If so where is the RPM sensor?

thanks

Believe that's the code that is suppose to not disappear. It is there if your car is not going at least 30mph. If I'm wrong, someone correct me. So, if I'm right, there's nothing for you to worry about- it's suppose to be there.

Hope and think you're right. I looked almost everywhere in the manual could not find anything about port A7.

Do you know where this info may bewritten in the manual or elsewhere?

thanks

Which manual are you looking at? If you have not done so download the factory service manual pinned at the top of the main 850 page and after you unzip it see the file named instrument panel.pdf.

If your tach works OK I would just clear the code and then check it later to see if the code reposted. It may be a code leftover from a long ago problem.

I would focus on vac leaks from the hoses and intake manifold gasket if you're worried about the idle quality.

The speed sensor underneath, on the back of the transmission, and would set a code in the transmission if the sensor was bad. I believe some of the earlier 850's did have a bad sensor that was superseded to a newer and improved sensor.

Thanks for the info. I do have this manual downloaded just had not looked at the instrument panel section.

Went thru sequence 3 for the tachometer section and the tach and speedo went vertical. I cleared the 1 3 2 code from A7 and it gave me a 1 1 1 but it will probably will come back I'm sure. I'll check it after I drive the car again.

I did not see anywhere that it talked about 1 3 2 being normal. If you know where that is mentioned let me know, I'm getting curious. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree with this code.

Now I noticed that the top engine mount is definitely bad. Could that cause a quiver in the idle? Bet it probably does. I'll do a search on this too.

thanks again

Try driving the car and then checking the code before shutting off the engine.

If there was a problem with the sensor, the transmission would have a code and maybe even shifting problems.

The upper torque mount can cause a rough feeling (vibration)in the car, but not a rough running engine.

I was wrong about 1-3-2. There is a code however that comes on and stays on if the car doesn't go above a certain speed and then it's tested (just can't remember which socket is used). Anyway here's some more information from another forum I found:

A7: 1-3-2, Engine speed sensor signal incorrect/absent.
1) This DTC will set if engine speed signal is absent for at least 10 seconds when generator sends charge signal (D+). Tachometer
will not function.
2) To correct this problem, check for open, shorted to voltage or grounded signal leads. Also check for connector contact resistance or a fault in ignition/fuel system.

I believe the code you are referring to is probably 1 2 2 at B2 (cruise) that stays on.

I'm not getting any codes in A1 or A2 or any cels for the first time ever in the four years I have had this car.

I just recently replaced the oil trap. Everything has been gone over with a fine tooth comb over and over. I replaced every vacuum hose., 2 intake hoses and have checked them multiple times. New coolant temp sensor new thermostat radiator new timing belt water pump air filter.

In your section 2 fuel/ignition problem was indicated. Its starting to sound more like something in that area. Fuel filter has been in for three years about 30k maybe time to change.

One thing I am now noticing is my mpg has gone down substantially to under 15 (car has been getting 20-22). Also at idle at a stop light for example the mpg gauge will drop about 0.8 mpg during the typical red light duration. I do not remember it doing this before-something must be sucking gas somewhere (or pumping). Idle tends to stay at 850 but will drop down some to around 700.

And coming to think of it when started from cold it idles good. After riding around some it tends to not idle as smooth occasionally acting as if it may cut off, but it never does. going from park to drive neutral does not seem to change the idle and neither does turning on the a/c.

Sorry for the long wind but I have to write all this stuff down somewhere.

I'll keep plugging on this one.
