2006 V70R Book labor rate on full PCV replacement?

Post by E Showell »

Anybody know book labor on a full PCV swap for a 2006 V70 R? Thanks. I've done 'em on P80s and am trying to decide whether I'll attempt on a P2.

Just a few days ago I was quoted approx 3 hrs x $140/hr = $420 total labor. That's in zip code 76132.

Now, the horrendous oil leak I have, due to not servicing the PCV on time, is another story.....

Those are dealer rates in my area. Indy charges $99/hr. and is a bargain at that rate.

I'd count about 4-5h charge. Garages don't really charge the actual hours which for someone used to it (and a Volvo tech should be very used to this job) should be under 1.5h assuming no seals need replaced. Good to replace the thermostat at same time. There are a few specific tricks - mainly using a 1/4" 10mm socket with wobble (swivel joint) and extensions, plus a nipple is hard to replace, but once these known, I'd say go for it. I did it on my non turbo (easier) and I was a newbie. I also took a few minutes to clean the manifold once out and gave it a fresh paint - people comment often times how clean it looks (I'm in Canada - dirty winters)

The one actual downside on this job - is rather tough on the lower back

Watch this video to help decide. It's a good video showing what it takes and some good tips. I would only add it's worth the extra effort(for me anyway) to remove the fan shroud/assembly to provide some extra room when removing and installing the throttle body pipe clamp for example.

I just had this done on my daughters 04' V70 base. My indie charged 2 hours worth of labor at the tune of $98, parts were $213.59.
the total was $409.59 plus tax.

Dirk, Thanks. Great meeting you and Mark as well. My favorite moment -- you saying "it's completely dry under there."
