Re: POLL: Do you use your signals?
I use them in the middle of nowhere. Process is process. How many times do you find yourself fastening seatbelt to move car from one side of driveway to the other? You install two rod bolts then torque them. Remove oil filler cap before drain so you know you can put the oil back in, then leave it off until oil is added. You look, turn on signal, and then change lane. If you shortcut the process then you leave yourself open to more mistakes. Don't you hope your pilot remembers to deploy flaps before takeoff? If someone sees signal and moves on you then you get a new car or some new paint and parts and it is on their insurance (you live because that is why you drive a Volvo). You turn them on when turning onto another road or into parking lot because you do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Believer or non-believer doesn't matter we all should do everything to get along.

Exactly three, thou shalt not proceed to four?RickHaleParker wrote: ↑13 Jan 2019, 18:37 I'm in Kansas where we don't use turn signals. We make eye contact and communicate intent.
If you are ever in Wichita, KS this law is still on the books.
-Before proceeding through the intersection of Douglas and Broadway, a motorist is required to get out of their vehicle and fire three shot gun rounds into the air.

Three shots is a warning. It has it roots in the European Dynastic wars.
The shots signaled the end of a cease fire ...

I always thought I was good about using signals until I drove the first service loaner with lane keeping aid. Then I realized how often I don't. So for many years now I have been mindful to use them. Before I only used them when I could see another car and rarely when changing lane. After driving more than 30 years it is easy to become complacent and lax driving skills. June

This may come as a surprise, but we were unable to find any documentation of this as an actual law for the City of Wichita.
Though it has made an appearance on many sites that mention the other, very true, weird Wichita laws, we have not seen any ordinances that require that this be done, and we've certainly never seen it done, either.

When vehicles are moving along, they are not needed. When a vehicle has, or will have, a much reduced speed, with approaching rearward vehicles, they should be used. Driver's are suppose to be paying attention, but with a large difference in speed, one-eyed drivers might not be able to visualize distance.
I still believe the third brake light was a joke
Third brake light: Have rear-end crashes lessened 30 years after mandate?...Between 1988 — the earliest figures available — and 2014, the percentage of fatal crashes that involved rear-enders actually rose from 4.6 percent to 5.2 percent. Rear-end injury accidents also increased, from 24.9 percent of all crashes to 28.7 percent, according to the NHTSA. Likewise, rear-end property damage-only collisions increased from 23.5 to 29 percent, and the percentage of rear-end accidents jumped from 23.8 to 28.8 percent.
...
...
Automatic braking can substantially reduce rear-end accidents, or at least their severity. In recent years, nearly half of all two-vehicle collisions involved a rear-end crash, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. In addition, an insurance institute study shows that automatic emergency braking technology could lower insurance injury claims by up to 35 percent.

Turn signals are a must for me regardless of traffic density.
I use them whenever I am not driving one of these Traffic in this scenario would be irrelevant
