Re: S80 sunroof, loose metal laying in drain track see pic
well, looking at my 2000 V70 - there is one of these metal pieces attached to the bottom of the sunroof glass on both the front edge and back edge. On my 2001 V70 the piece I had in the garage lines up with the back edge of sunroof glass. Unfortunately, the metal piece that should go on the front edge is also missing, and I don't have that one. My sunroof doesn't leak, and I can't see how this piece would have any influence on water drainage - I wonder what purpose it serves? I suspect it provides for separation between the slide and the glass. It's possible it caused a leak on yours simply because it was in the way, or perhaps an edge of it was hanging outside the drain channel allowing water out of the channel.

Had similar problem on 2001 V70. Opened sunroof and metal strip fell out.. Glued at front and back of sunroof glass frame to push glass up, wedge it when sunroof was closed. Front strip fell first, rear strip separated when glass slid into back into roof. Volvo's eco-friendly glue not so friendly in Texas heat. Dealer had no fix except glass replacement, said they'd tried epoxies with no success. I began watching eBay auctions for a used replacement. Many offered were also missing the strips. Then I noticed from posted auction pictures that configuration was apparently changed in a later model year, strips were shaped and fastened differently. I found one at a good price and swapped it out myself.
