Brake service warning-then key won't turn?

Post by Headsup »

Just did new rotors and pads 2 weeks ago on 01 v70 non turbo.
This eve upon leaving for grocery store (8 blocks) "emergency brake service required" message pops up, red exclamation triangle and red exclamation sign on the right read out.
Get to store, return to car. Key won't turn. Minus 25 degrees outside.
Got a pal to get me home.
Left car in store lot.
ANY help pointing me to issue most appreciated.
$300 for scrap is looking mighty tempting at this point.....
Thanks in advance.

Did I mention it was very cold?
Sprayed lock de icer into ignition key switch, turned key and started car.
Brake warning message gone with the exclamation mark.

Forum experts might need to understand, I've been driving this brand for over 40 years, and have owned 544's, 122's , 123's, 145's, 245's, 740's, 760's, 850's, and presently have 3 v70's, a 98, an 01 & 03. The crazy crap the very reliable 01-(500,000 k) is throwing at me is the only reason why I'm posting, after years of just reading and learning. I'm convinced my ex wife has conjured up some crazy car curse to keep me pulling my few hairs out.

Read out the codes tripping the message, or else it's a lot of time to go through component by component.

One possibility is that junk got onto the ABS tone ring and is tripping the wheel sensor error. That's the notched ring inboard of the wheel bearing hub

I had ABS get stuck on in a very weird way on my first 850 before I scraped the teeth of the ring clean with s flathead screwdriver.. extremely uncomfortable until I figured it out.

new pads - what is your brake fluid level? Did you loosen the cap on the fluid reservoir?

Thanks for the help.
problem disappeared as magically as it showed up! no warning, no exclamation sign, no red triangle.
fluid level fine, I'll pull the codes later.

I posted a weird blue smoke issue (serious amounts) that magically happened two days running on the 98 V70.
THAT problem also magically has disappeared. May have been the way I had the car parked, slight incline rear end higher than front end.
since I reversed that, no smoke!.
