engine swap between two S60 2005 2.5T

Post by pagliocco »

Hello,

I am planning to swap engines/trany assembly from another S60 2.5T 2005 to my car. Same engine same year.

Need expert advise from someone that had done this before.
1) What is the best method for engine/trany removal all assembled. From the top or is it better to drop the engine cradle and hait them come out from the bottom.

2) Should I be concerned about the ECU and TCM. I am hoping that I do not need to transfer these two modules from the donor cas as they are the same year same engine.

3) any information you can provide for do's and dont's would be greatly appraciate.
Regards,
SP

These engines are best removed from the top...as you probably know, you'll have to disconnect the axles, all suspension, the subframe, etc. It might be worth checking with the dealer ahead of time what has to be "married" to the new engine...or rather the ECU to the old chassis etc...if you are planning to swap the ECU as well (which I would think is preferred)l. Otherwise, if all is equal, I don't see that you'll have an issue of incompatibility.

OMG. Just did this for a 2013 S60 T5 AWD. The work is relatively easy if you have any experience, but I developed an annoying electrical? issue and I still can't start my car. FYI, I removed from the bottom, with the entire subframe, tranny, everything (other than what need to be taken off, like ac pump, alternator, etc etc). I still don't know if a replacement means an automatic ECU reflash. Please search for my other thread on my issue(s).
